Now, let me clear something up: In general, I think blogging is incredibly narcissistic in every aspect. We let people into our lives, attempt to get regular readers and followers, and promote whatever aspect of ourselves we project into the vast waste-land of the internet. And as readers, there is a sense of narcissism as well. We read to understand ourselves, to help ourselves, and, sometimes, to feel better about ourselves. I can at least offer you that part! You can feel better about yourself by comparison. I promise it will at least be entertaining.
Now, let me clear something else up: the title of my blog is not meant to suggest that I am brilliant. I've been told numerous times that I have book smarts but no street smarts. I'm limited in my intelligence; I can analyze the sh*t out of a poem, but I can't perform basic math problems, and if you asked me what year anybody did anything important, historically speaking, I'm at a loss. I'd be excellent on Jeopardy if all the categories were things like "19th Century British Literature," or "Edgar Allan Poe," or "Ways to eat an avocado," but alas. What I am, however, is curious. I'm interested. I have a genuine desire to know things about people and places and ideas and theories, and I love to read. When you combine these two, and toss in the wonder of the internet, you have a world of possibilities. I love research. I love to learn. If I could be a student for the rest of my life -- and live comfortably, I'm not crazy -- I would. Alas, my time as a student comes to a end this summer.
This blog is going to be a reflection of my life as it happens, as much as it can be. I completed my first whole30 (58 days!) on Tuesday, May 27th, and I am currently living the paleo life, so occasionally there will be food posts. There might even be recipes, but I'm bad about measuring so be prepared for a lot of "then add oregano. However much you want. idk, maybe 3 seconds worth?" I'm running a 5k tomorrow, and I'm getting into running, so there may be posts on that or my explorations into yoga, pilates, and hopefully in the month of June, some weight lifting. That does not mean I know anything about fitness. I get excited when I do 5 pushups in a row. I'm currently writing my MA thesis, and trying to find a job. There will be existential ramblings about that. Sorry, but at least I warned you.
Welcome to the monkey house.
